Using Pinterest to Drive Traffic to My Personal Blog: Creating Pinterest Pins on Canva
Written by Lauren Molloy on 10 January 2024
Introduction
In my Digital Marketing course, we explored how Pinterest can be used as another tool to optimize traffic to your website organically. I used Canva to create a design which I could then post on Pinterest with a link to my blog.
What is Pinterest and Why Does it Matter?
Pinterest is a predominately visual search engine with 482 million users, that uses thumbnail images to create a pin with a brief summary and links to a particular website. The site learns your interests and search style to make recommendations based on your topics of interest. Pinterest also acts as a social media site, you can follow people, discover new content, get inspiration, find informational content, project ideas or inspiration on virtually any topic.
Tools I Used
What I Learned
I have used Pinterest a lot in the past but have never used it in this way, so with this project, I was able to revisit it with a fresh perspective. It was very helpful to break down the behind-the-scenes information gathered from Pinterest Academy so that I went into the processes with a basic knowledge of how to use Pinterest, both functionally, and to utilize it to my advantage.
Canva is a relatively new tool in my tool belt, so every time I use it I learn something new, which is great. I found it easy to use because of the selection of templates and formats, and easy to customize, making in completely unique, on-brand, and relevant to my post.
What I Created
- I created a Business Pinterest account on-brand for my blog.
Check out my pinterest page here. - Then I went on to Canva to create the Pinterest thumbnail I could use for my Pinterest account. Here is what I created:

- Lastly, I went back to Pinterest and created and published my pin using this visual with a link to my personal blog post. You can look at that here.
Conclusion
I gained very valuable insight and experience with this project using these digital tools. Canva continues to amaze, unlocking another level of potential in a digital marketing strategy when making ad creative. I feel much more confident about using Pinterest from a marketing standpoint after completing this project and look forward to unlocking more potential on this platform with continued use.
